EL RANCHO TEQUILA GRILL LA BUFADORA
Alex Malpica the restaurant owner specializes in high-end tequilas and excels at introducing these tasty libations to visitors. The house tequila begins with good tequila to which spices and fruit are added to marinate and bring out unexpected flavors. It is often compared to cognac. To the right Alex is doing what he often does, smile at your good time. Their bar is truly the best in the area. The Drink Menu is on the right. If you are out for the evening this is where to be entertained which brings me to their band.

They have live music on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for dancing and enjoying. The ATM Band is known for Santana sounds. Cumbias, Rock and Jazz. They welcome visiting musicians to join in and the place rocks. You ask why Tuesdays? Come on, have you never heard of Taco Tuesday? Another phrase I have learned, one you will not hear in the States, TNT. Tacos and Tequila - sounds dangerous, but fun.

This place has something for everyone or group. Come for lunch and your whole family will have a good time, come for the bar and you will not be let down, come for the live entertainment (the only live entertainment in the area) and you will enjoy yourself. Just be careful on the drive back. Only fifteen to twenty minutes from the beach houses it is easy to get to and the view is spectacular. Many of our guests just drive out there for the view. To the right and above is Norma our favorite server (with the green apron). As far as we are concerned you need to tip big or die when it comes to her. Ask Alex about fire fighting on both sides of the border. Many parts of the restaurant are tributes to Fire Fighters on both sides of the border. He was in New York during 9/11 and I am sure he has stories to tell.

Their hours are the best part, since so many restaurants in the area close early. They are open Monday and Tuesday 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Thursday and Sunday 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Put it in perspective most of the restaurants close by 5:00 PM in the Winter and by 7:00 PM in the Summer in the area. In addition, they are open when the other restaurants are closed. Most restaurants are closed either Monday or Tuesday so they are open. They have to have a day off so they close on Wednesdays only.

The shot to the right is behind the Surfboard bar. Hey Alex, not a good idea letting us behind the bar. Our favorite chef has just fed us (he is on the right of the shot), our favorite server (third from the left) made sure we were want for nothing, joined by friends, and entertained by the owners of a great restaurant. This is why you come to La Bufadora and Punta Banda so don't miss this stop. If you are lucky you will be one of the people on the right enjoying the food, the atmosphere, and the band.

To the left are two of my favorite women in the Baja. One is my wife and the love of my life and the other one is one of my life's best friends. As you can see they hate this place (just kidding). They are having the house specialty. When you visit, just order it. It is good for at least two people and comes with Salsa and chips, tortillas or their garlic bread, and of course you will need to order a couple of ice cold Mexican beers or Marguerita's.

If you are lucky enough to meet Alex, Jan, Marta and the others that make this place happen, tell them the Kennedy's sent you. You will receive a smile, a good time, and you will make both of us happy that you got to share a real La Bufadora experience. Check out the band poster to the right. Add this to your trip and you won't be sorry.

You can contact them 154-2527 or 160-5521 (these are the Baja Numbers). Calling from the states you need to call 011-52-646-154-2527 or 011-52-646-160-5521. Or you can email them on the link below.

If you stay in a Beach House in Punta Banda and do not visit this restaurant you have truly missed the La Bufadora experience. This is a stop for the whole family. On the door as you walk into the easiest to get to La Bufadora Restaurants it says " Hot Beer, Lousy Food, Bad Service, Welcome". Don't let the sign fool you because none of this sign is true. The Beer is ice cold, the food is excellent, the service is wonderful, and the owners are always concerned about your experience at their fine restaurant. Alex and Jan are the first couple on the left of the picture on your right.

The Restaurant, Bar, and view out the window is entertainment for the eyes. Inside your eyes will go from the many surfboard bars, fireman tributes on both sides of the border, and the pirates. Outside the cove views are some of the best in the area. The picture to the right was taken from one of their many tables through the window. If it is another great day in the Baja you will want to be outside to see the view first hand.
On a warm evening or afternoon you can always eat or drink outside at the Surfboard bar or the tables to the left near the cactus garden. There is even a fire pit for colder nights or just for the fun of it. Inside or out this place is a great time.

In their fourth year now, El Rancho La Bufadora Tequila Grill caters to locals (see the happy local to the right I think he had some of Alex's tequila) and tourists of discriminating taste. While the restaurant can best be described as funky and fun, the food is excellent. The atmosphere and the inside of the restaurant is a book for your eyes to read and it takes more than one visit to take it all in. They offer authentic Mexican cuisine as well as popular fish, beef and chicken dishes. Their chicken soup is my favorite part of the experience and the locals swear it cures flu and colds. They have frequent specials, allowing the chef full freedom in his creative efforts. They also open their kitchen to frequent "Guest Chefs". They are locals who bring to their restaurant their special dishes to share.
Remember, always pay in pesos if listed in the menu. The rate has changed so much lately that you never know what exchange rate you will be given for dollars. Better to avoid the concern and maximize your money.
