JUNIORS RESTAURANT IN PUNTA BANDA
For years Eileen and I would take guests there and would smile our disappointment to each other when one of
our friends ordered the burger there. Why, we would think, would anyone order a burger while in the land of the
unappreciated gourmet, Baja Mexican Food. So many great choices and they would order a burger. So one day
we were told by some friends what a great burger it was even after we were back in the states. So the next time
we were down we tried one. We have been hooked ever since. Juniors has the best Burger in the entire
Ensenada Area (maybe the entire Baja Norte Area). Think In-and-Out if you are from Southern California only
bigger. That's right, the hot is hot (meat and cheese) and the cold is cold (Lettuce and Tomato). It is a good ole
fashion burger like you would do on your own barbeque. Even their fries and onion rings are great. The prices
are fair and the quantity great. I can't believe I am recommending a burger while in the Baja, but I have too.
As long as we are talking about Americano food, their BBQ on Friday nights is great. We like to order one rib
plate and one Chicken plate and share. Once down there for a while, you start to miss American food so you go
to Juniors for Spaghetti, fish and chips, BBQ Ribs and Chicken, and Pork Chops and other American dishes.
Check out the menu on the buttons above. More important realize that their BBQ Friday night dinner is as good
as any Texas BBQ I have ever had. The Ribs and Chicken fall of the bone and the Potato Salad is spectacular,
the Baked Beans are right out of Texas, and finally their salad that goes without every meal is fresh and
I have been talking about how good their Americano food is, but I still order Carne Asada, Chili Releno,
Enchiladas, tacos and every other Mexican dish from time to time as well. Eileen loves their fish dishes as well.
The entire Baja is fish heaven and Juniors is no exception.
Talk about a great deal, you have to have breakfast there. Since a lot of the local restaurants open late morning
down there, Juniors is consistently available for an early breakfast. Their weekend prices for a great Mexican
breakfast can not be beat in the area. I told you about my fixation on Chorizo and Eggs.
Don't miss this stop. Everyone in your party will find something that pleases them. The prices are reasonable.
The service matches the food and the people they are our family now. Tell them that the Kennedy's (The Baja
Experience) sent you. They are open from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM every day. Breakfast is served on Saturday,
Sunday, and Monday from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

By the way, Americans are of two varieties in Mexico; those of us that tip the same way in the states as we do
in Mexico and those of us (I am ashamed to stay) that take the approach that they can tip much less since
these people will appreciate anything. Please do not belong to the second group. The meal gourmet or
otherwise cost you less. So tipping at 20% cost you less as well and will leave the people that follow you in a
much better light.
Remember, always pay in pesos if listed in the menu. The rate has changed so much lately that you never
know what exchange rate you will be given for dollars. Better to avoid the concern and maximize your money.
The great thing about Juniors is that it is open year round. Many of the businesses
and restaurants near the beach areas are and were only open during the season. In
other words, June through August. Finding a consistently good restaurant that is
open in the middle of September or May, when the water is warm, the sun is hot,
but it is past or not yet tourist season used to be a real find in the Punta Banda
Area. This was when we first found Juniors. Now that many additional places are
open year round, we still go to Juniors almost every trip.
They are set up on a hill with one of the greatest views in the area. You won't be
able to help yourself. You will look toward the water and try to find the house you
are staying in. Juniors is on the road heading out of Punta Banda. on the right hand
side. It is easy to spot since it is definitely on of the only three story buildings in the
entire area. On your way in you saw it up the hill on your left. If you are coming from
the beach and you just past all of the business in the heart of Punta Banda the road
will wind. Just before it moves seriously to the left, up on the hill to your right, is a
cement road that goes up to Juniors building. There is parking up there not to
mention a great view of the entire area. If you have reached the swimming pools on
the left you have gone to far (with or without water in them).
Some of the things I like about them now are the opposite of what I wanted in my
first few years going to the Baja. I always wanted my shrimp tacos, chorizo and
eggs, enchiladas done right and everything Baja Mexican food. Had to have it as
often as I could whenever I was down there and still love almost every Mexican dish.
Now that I have spent near a lifetime fulfilling the pre-mentioned need, once in a
while I might like a good Burger.
